Admit slips are students’ written responses to questions the teacher asks at the end of a class session. These are quick and informal allowing the teacher to quickly assess students’ understanding of the material. Admit slips are similar to Exit slips but they are given as an activity to do at home and turn in to the teacher the following day. This strategy can be very beneficial when dealing with art history, eras, and introducing a new lesson to students.
How to use: At the end of class, ask students to respond to a question. Distributing 3x5 note cards for the students to write their responses will make this activity easier. Students will be asked to answer the questions as an at-home activity and turn in their 3X5 note card upon entry to the next class session. Review the admit slips to determine how you may need to alter your instruction in order to maximize learning.
